Classes for 2 - 3 years old

Young Ballet Dancer

Caregiver & Me

 THU 9:00 am - 9:45 am 

For the first time, we welcome our dancers' caregivers into the room with our young dancers! Caregivers of any kind are welcome to attend, whether they are parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or nannies. It takes a village to raise wonderful dancers who are also wonderful human beings. It all starts here! **This is a Non-Performing class that will not participate in the end of the year recital.** (Attire: Girls: Dance dress or leotard and skirt, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers; Boys: T-shirt, leggings or sweatpants, black ballet slippers)

Ballet/Tap

In this fun and lively combination class, young dancers learn coordination, balance, and how to move gracefully and fluidly with basic ballet steps and choreography. Then dancers will switch to tap, a natural way for energetic young dancers to develop a great sense of rhythm, concentration, and musicality. Tap class is when making noise and being active is built right in! Each class will carve out time for creativity, using imaginative props such as colorful ribbons, glittery scarves, hula-hoops, magic wands and more. Ballet/Tap is a perfect combination for every young dancer. (Attire: Girls: leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black tap shoes; Boys: white t-shirt, Black leggings or sweatpants, black ballet slippers and black tap shoes; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Ballet/Tumble

(3-5 yrs)

This child-centered class focuses on learning the basics of beginner ballet, developing social skills and creative expression. Children will be introduced to the graceful flow of classical ballet using sparkle wands, colorful ribbons and various imagination provoking props. Dancers will also try their hand at basic tumbling skills such as, forward rolls, bridges and beginner cartwheels. Our fun and lively class is filled with giggles and lots of wiggles, jumps, twirls and imaginative play. Moving creatively in Ballet/Tumble is sure to boost a young dancer’s physical and emotional well-being. ​ (Attire: Girls: leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers Boys: black sweatpants, white t-shirt and black ballet slippers; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Creative Movement

(3-4 yrs)

Creative Movement is all about self-expression and beginning to attribute movement with meaning and meaning with movement. Developing dancers will learn basic ballet and jazz vocabulary while exploring the space with sparkle wands, colorful ribbons, and other engaging props. This is a NON-PERFORMANCE class which will not perform in the end of the year recital. It is meant for young dancers who aren't quite ready for the stress and expectations of performing. (Attire: Girls: leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers Boys: black sweatpants, white t-shirt and black ballet slippers; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Ballet/Jazz

Ballet/Jazz combo is an exciting and fun class that first focuses on the graceful and elegant style of ballet, before switching to the upbeat and lively style of jazz dance. Dancers will start at the ballet barre, learning ballet vocabulary and introductory ballet movement. In the jazz portion of the class, dancers travel across the studio with kicks, turns and leaps and learn fun and funky choreography that builds flexibility, coordination and confidence. Each class will carve out time for creativity, using imaginative props such as colorful ribbons, glittery scarves, hula-hoops, magic wands and more. Ballet/Jazz is the best of both worlds! ​ (Attire: Girls: leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes and tan jazz shoes; Boys: white t-shirt, Black sweatpants, black ballet slippers and black jazz shoes; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Jazz/Hip Hop

Jazz/Hip-hop is a high energy, age appropriate class, consisting of fun, and funky choreography, stretch and strength exercises, and jazz technique. Jazz improves overall technique, alignment, jumps & turns. Hip Hop is puts the emphasis on musicality and rhythm. Find your groove and individual style in this fun, fresh class. ​ (Attire: Leotard of any color, tan tights, and tan jazz shoes)

Ballet/Acro

Ballet/Acro gives dancers the opportunity combine the fluidity and grace of ballet with the daring tricks of acrobatic dance. Dancers start at the ballet barre and learn ballet vocabulary and technique. Then, dancers can work on their acrobatic skills. Acro teaches the fundamentals of exciting gymnastic tricks. Students develop strength, flexibility, and confidence as they learn how to execute acrobatic elements to use in dance choreography. Acro focuses on forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers and more. Dancers will gain muscle control, balance, and advance their tumbling technique at their own pace. ​ (Attire: Girls: leotard, pink or tan convertible/stirrup tights, pink ballet shoes and bare feet for acro; Boys: Black sweatpants, white t-shirt, black ballet slippers and bare feet for acro; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Jazz

Jazz Dance is an ideal way to develop well-rounded dance skills – it's lively, energetic and creatively diverse. Set to today's popular music, students learn turns, leaps, isolations and self-expression. Jazz dance increases flexibility, strength, musicality and and an over all sense of wellbeing and bodily connection. ​ (Attire: Girls: leotard, tan tights, tan jazz shoes; Boys: Black sweatpants/leggings, white t-shirt, and black jazz shoes; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable.)

Musical Theater is a lively and fun class, set to music from Broadway and movie musicals! This is a class for the dramatic dancers, with a flare for expression! Get your jazz hands ready! In this class you will learn everything you need for your future Broadway career. You'll learn Jazz and Tap dance along with Theater improv games and sing-a-longs. We will tailor the class to the level of the registered dancers. Whatever your dance experience, the theater will always be your home and all are welcome! Ballet is the foundation for many other styles of dance. This class is for students who are ready to challenge themselves in the art of classical ballet. Ballet focuses on alignment, strength, and flexibility while encouraging musicality, artistry and expressive performance. Ballet will improve your dancing in all other styles as well. ​ (Attire: Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes, hair in a neat bun; Boys: Black sweatpants/leggings, white t-shirt, and black ballet shoes, hair off the face; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable, hair in a bun if possible)

Acro

Acro (acrobatics for dancers), teaches exciting gymnastic tricks. Students develop strength and flexibility, while learning how to execute acrobatic elements to use in dance choreography. Acro focuses on challenging each dancer at their own pace including cartwheels, walkovers, back handspring, aerials etc. Dancers will gain muscle control, balance, and advance their tumbling technique. ​ (Attire: Girls: leotard, convertible/stirrup tights, bare feet; Boys: Black sweatpants/leggings, t-shirt, and bare feet; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable)

Contemporary

 SAT 11:00 am - 11:55 am 

Contemporary Dance is all about freedom of movement and expression while developing your technique and flexibility. Explore new movements and challenge your technical skills in this class. Get off your center and learn new jumps and turns. Become more comfortable and confident with improvisation and emotional connection through movement. Dancers should be ready to engage their mind, body, and soul through technical dance and emotional connection. (Attire: Comfortable clothes and bare feet, optional half sole shoes)

Jumps & Turns

(5th grade & up)

Leaps & Turns will consist of a warm up to improve strength and flexibility. Dancers will focus on their posture and alignment so they can improve their turns. They will build strength in their ankles, hips, and legs to get higher, more placed jumps. This class will introduce new jumps and turns that will keep all dancers challenged and engaged. **This is a Non-Performing class that will not participate in the end of the year recital.** (Attire: Comfortable clothes, and tan jazz shoes)

Pre-Pointe / Pointe

(5th grade & up)

Pointe is a beautiful, traditional, and challenging style that requires lots of ankle strength and a high level of ballet technique. This class will prepare dancers for going up on pointe. Once dancers are ready to do so, they will be invited to go up onto Pointe. Our Pointe dancers will perform on Pointe and everyone else will remain in slippers until they are ready. (Attire: Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes, hair in a neat bun; Boys: Black sweatpants/leggings, white t-shirt, and black ballet shoes, hair off the face; Non-binary: any of the above in which they are comfortable, hair in a bun if possible)

Adult Tap

Get Tappin'! Whether you danced when you were a kid and miss it, or you're looking for a fun new challenge, tap is a great way to stay in shape while refining your balance, rhythm, and musicality! This is a beginner level with room to grow! The class will be taught to the level of dancers participating so don't be intimidated or scared of trying something new! ​ (Attire: Comfortable clothes and black tap shoes.)

Competition Teams

AUDITIONS:  JUNE 8th

Current Grades 2 - 8       2:00 pm

All dancers who would like to participate in our competition team program for the 2025-26 season must register and attend our auditions which will be held June 8th, 2025.

Current Millis Dance Team members from 2024-25 season must also audition. If placed on a team, all dancers are expected to enroll in team rehearsal classes on Saturdays as well as a ballet class and one other 1+ hour technique class of the dancers' choice. 5th-8th graders must attend the first audition, and if interested in potentially joining the Diamond level team, they are welcome to attend both auditions.
